Habitat management is the lever, we are using to increase wildlife species above and below ground.
We have now recorded our baseline biodiversity habitats across all our business units, and in total we have 1,300ha of Water features, Field Margins and In Field Features, Mountains, Woodlands and hedgerows.
The next steps are to develop our improvement plans to deliver meaningful increases in biodiversity by 2030.

For World Soil Day 2023 we have produced a short video to outline our commitment to protecting and improving soil heath and increasing its water holding capacity across our different farming locations.
Over the past eight years we have been developing and testing Regenerative Agricultural practices and our 2030 strategy embeds Regenerative Agriculture across all our farms.

The diverse geographical regions across which we farm result in significant variability and availability of water across our farming base.
We have implemented a variety of systems and improvements to minimise water usage, such as more efficient irrigation systems and the building of reservoirs, whilst also improving drainage.
Innovations in drip tape and drip irrigation allows us to reduce our water usage whilst maximising the uptake of water by each individual plant.

“Against the backdrop of serious labour sourcing challenges, G’s have chosen to lead above the line, take ownership and be accountable for the safe recruitment of seasonal workers that are vital for their operations.
While needing to often react to external changes, they have ensured worker voice and partnership at the core and created an industry leading approach for responsible recruitment.
Thank you, G’s, for creating a solid solution and for recognising that worker welfare and doing things the right way are part of effective business.”

G’s have been hosting Open Farm Sunday at Barway since 2006 and each year the event attracts visitors from across the region and beyond.
This year our event attracted over 7,000 visitors and was supported by a range of G’s customers, suppliers, industry, and environmental partners.
This year we we delighted to host M&S who produced this short video.
Open Farm Sunday is a great opportunity for people to visit their local farms to see how their food is produced.

Over the Past 8 years we have driven to create habitat to enable wildlife to flourish.
Our approach has been simple.
There is clear beneficial evidence that shows, a clear-cut line of – Is the land productive for food? YES we farm it, if NOT it goes to wildlife.

Over the past eight years we have been developing and testing regenerative agricultural practices and our 2030 strategy embeds regenerative agriculture across all our farms.
Whilst globally, regenerative agriculture is well established in broad acre arable, this is not the case in horticulture and vegetable growing where there is no established road map and there will be far greater challenges in the transition.

We try our hardest to look after the crops we grow but sometimes we get tripped up. Loads of great #onions left here for #gleaning but too many suffered from the extreme 40+ degree heat meaning we can’t store or sell them.
